Poem: Truth Hidden

Truth Hidden

Whether soul mates who have lost our way home
Or shipmates who forget the reason for this voyage,
Too often, loving one or many --
As if loving ‘one’ proves loyalty
Or loving ‘many’ generosity --
truth gets hidden in the fog of our artifice.

The deceit in a too perfect kiss,
The touch without a tremble,
Façades of tenderness, passion in costume --
So well contrived,
Everyone fakes ecstasy
When deception is the starting point.

Side conversations held in shallow coves,
As if avoiding Love’s swift currents
Will somehow assure safety.
Memories of drowning
Do not serve us well on this ocean,

And I do not want to talk about the weather
When there is lightning in my heart.

Knowing home is where Love leads,
My North Star the dream of my beloved,
This traveler tries to find
The right map for these stormy seas.
Each route taken strips off the veils,
Finds a way through fog and smoke and mirrors,

Beloved - when I find you,
I will have found my way home.
