Poem: Shards of Ice

Shards of Ice

At one time, pieces of a rainbow,
Before it collapsed
Under the weight of
kindness ignored,
love not cherished,
too little wonder,
miracles blindly denied.

Now shards of ice melting in your hand --
Hold them gently friend,
And know they will melt,
Fall to the ground,
Join a river,
Turn into vapor,
Become a rainbow once again.

Poem: Something Fell

Something Fell

Something fell – I pause and listen:
A petal from the rose I picked?
The note to self I wrote a year ago?
A star the night sky could no longer hold
Or the wishes made upon it?

Something fell – there was no crash,
No tremor or splintering glass.
The universe still holds its shape.
It might have gone unnoticed or been denied
But the heart hears the softest sigh.

Something fell – into place perhaps;
The lesson will show itself in time.
But now the absence, the hole it left,
Calls for reflection and time to decide
If it will be sealed off or filled.
